I finally have reached my goal weight (135 lbs. and I'm 5'6"), but I am still flabby. I'm happy with the weight and I think I look pretty good with clothes on. I was in the 160s after I had my baby. He's two now. My stomach is soft and sticks out, and I have some saddlebags. Should I still do at least 30 minutes of cardio 3 days a week or should I concentrate more on weight machines and toning? How often, what exercises, and for how long? I can't seem to flatten my abs at all or tone up anywhere! Informed and detailed answers, please.

First off, contgratulations on your weight loss and hitting your goal! That is a good weight for your height.

I am also at my goal weight. I'm 5'8" and 123. I was about 30 lbs more. previous to the medical condition which I gained weight on, I was 130-135 forever but still a little cuddlier than I would have liked. I'll tell you what I do now that I dont want to lose any weight and firm up a bit.
cardio is good for your heart, so you should do at least 30 mins a few days a week.It also keeps the weight from coming back. If you dont want to lose anymore weight, just walk on the treadmill or do light eliptical.

now, the important thing- weight training!!!! I do about 3-4 sessions a week but keep them short. For me, I like to do a my whole body everyother day, but rotate the exercises. I find this to not be borning, and I have been dropign my body fat, wearing smaller clothes, but not dropping much more weight.

Abs are really tough to get flat. Mine were not flat until I was 130. even now it not perfectly flat. The thighs didnt stop touching until I was 125.

hope that helps! Keep up the good work! That is awesome after having a baby! I hope I'll look like that if/when I have a child!

along with a nutritious diet you need to do both cardio and weight training.. depending on what you had done -pre-baby it may take some time to get your midsection and hips down but don't give up ... you're a work in progress.. most give up because they want instant gratification.. that is not how our bodies work... you need to take your time and focus on what is it that you want to achieve and you'll do it! Also, yoga or pilates and strengthening your 'core' are best for overall fitness ESPCIALLY abs... you'll do it - just keep it up and get informed read up on it and you'll find all kinds of cool exercises and it'll be fun for you too!

first you should stretch before exersizing, then tone up, build a bit of muscles, then cardio, because muscles will burn fat, you need to first build muscles where you want the fat to go away.
