I have a neighbour with two of this breed, and they seem to be very tolerant with their three children, although would not allow half of what they do to the dogs to happen in the first place, although they are noisy when left, and apparantly took a long time to house train
good luck

Aw my sister has a basset hound. And my oath what a sweet dog! You can pull his ears and poke him and tug him and he loves it. I guess it has a lot to do with the way you bring it up. They like you to be firm with them coz they can be very naughty, but such passid gentle dogs. However, they are very hard to train, very intelligent and very stubborn. The also can get very excited, but if you get a short breed basset then you dont need to worry about them jumping on you.

But I have never met a more loving, cuddly, cute, adroable, sweet, plesant dog!

yes basset hounds are good dogs but how old are the children? there not much good if you want a dog to train to dog tricks and do agility or flybally with but if you dont want to dot that i think they would be great
