The natural resources Kosovo has is a 5billion dollar / year business. Without Kosovo, look at Serbia's economy now (it took a nose-dive). This is why the other ex-Yugoslav states broke away, they were all being drained of their resources and the money made was hardly invested in the satellite territories of Serbia's Yugoslavia.
Oh, and Serbia was not "born" there. Almost every nation in the Balkans at one point had their own empire. The borders changed constantly. Just because Serbian Kings were crowned in Kosovo during their empire, doesn't mean the land is rightfully theirs.
Same thing with the Seljuk Turks crowned in Persia and the Frenchman Napoleon being crowned in Italy, you don't see Iran/Iraq belonging to Turkey nor Italy belonging to France.
Also, the battle of Kosovo fought against the Turks was indeed led by a Serbian leader, but there were Albanians, Serbs, Greeks, Austrians, Hungarians, Bulgarians, and others all fighting together against the Turks in that same battle. It's not like they were all living there in Kosovo at that time, but it was a unified front located in Kosovo so that the participating nations would be spared to defend their land on their own borders.

Jelena L. : "The story about natural resources of Kosovo is the stupidity. Kosovo was always the most under-developed territory of ex Yugoslavia."
- You've just validated my point about Serbia's investment in Kosovo, Jelena, THANK YOU !!! If the Serbs really valued Kosovo, they wouldn't have let it get that bad in the first place.
Jelena L. : "How old are serbian churches and monasteries, and how old are albanian mosques there. "
- The ALBANIAN CHURCHES are older than both, maybe you forgot to mention this (Yes, we were Christians before the arrival of the Ottomans and even Gjergj Kastrioti [Skendërbeg] was called "Athleta Christi" [Champion of Christ (peace be upon him)] by Pope Pius II and Pope Nicholas V, one of three people ever to be given this title).
Chris : "It seems to me that Albanians want their own country/portion of someone else's country everywhere the go"
- Chris, stop your lies. In Montenegro and Macedonia, Albanians demanded equal rights and not to be treated as second class citizens. When they were refused the right, first in Montenegro, a short civil conflict occurred, ending in Albanian rights GRANTED. Then the same in FYROM, but the Macedonian stubbornness led to the threat of "equal rights or separation." The threat of separation only came as a last resort to get the rights every person in a democratic nation is entitled to. THE FACT IS THAT ALBANIANS CHOSE NOT TO VIOLATE INTERNATIONAL BOUNDARIES AND DEMAND EQUAL RIGHTS WITHIN THOSE COUNTRIES. The Serbs were even more stubborn than the Macedonians, this is why they want independence.

Kosovo is very important to the Serbs, they fought a battle here that defined their people, and it is seen as the birthplace of the Serbian Orthodox church. There are several important monasteries there. But, Milosevic was using the emotion of the issue to catapult his political career. He became the leader of Serbia by appealing to the strong emotion surrounding Kosovo.

It is not so important to Milosevic, it is important to everybody.
Because it is serbian territory anyway. The story about natural resources of Kosovo is the stupidity. Kosovo was always the most under-developed territory of ex Yugoslavia. The significance of Kosovo for Serbs is historical, religious and traditional. Albanians came from neighboring country - Albania and since they like traditional muslims have a lot of children, they became majority and now they want independence. So that later they can join Albania.
Go on Kosovo and see for yourself. How old are serbian churches and monasteries, and how old are albanian mosques there.

Plunder for one thing. The Serbs were the ones running the show and they ran Kosovo not as part of their country but a colonial backwoods section of their nation. Most Albanian families were forced abroad and they had made themselves wealthy compared to others living in Yugoslavia. The Serbs were robbing them in everyway possible.
Trpca mine is also a big reason.
Do not pay any attention to this idiot making the Phily comparison. He has no concept of how things really are in Kosova. He supports Orthodox famatism that is the same if not worse than militant Islam.

It is important to all Serbs. The significance of Kosovo for Serbs is historical, religious and traditional.
I am a US citizen but have been to Kosovo, Macedonia, and Albania.
It seems to me that Albanians want their own country/portion of someone else's country everywhere the go....Serbia, Macedonia, etc. After actually seeing Albania, I can understand why!
I do not understand why we support these actions/types of people. If there was a group in our country (let's just say all northerners or all southerners) who wanted independence, I don't think our government would be fighting for their right to independence.

It is considered the place where the nation of Serbia was born.
How would you like it if Philadelphia was taken over by foreigners who wanted to secede from the USA?
