I am a gastric bypass patient, meaning i've lost over 100lbs. I'm 22 years old currently weighing around 150lbs. I need to tone my body and still need to lose 20 more lbs. I joined the gym already but I'm confused. everyone gives you a different opinion. I do not want to end up looking like a body builder. I'm assuming 30-60 min. cardio is good to lose weight. And I think when it comes to strenth training (arm/leg machines?) I should be doing little weight but more repitition/sets. Am I right???

When you want to tone up without bulking up, use lighter weights and do more reps. I've also heard that things like Pilates and Yoga are great for that. As for the gym and lifting, instead of trying to kill yourself lifting more than you can handle, use lighter weight and do an extra set. Do try to use heavier weights maybe once a week though. Make sense? And yes, that amount of cardio is good. Try to mix it up though. Don't do the exact same thing every day forever. In my experience, I stay motivated by getting a variety, and that gets you more results too!

the misconception of becoming a 'bodybuilder' especially when it comes to women is a female bodybuilder has about 5-10% bodyfat... it takes a longgggg time and heavey weight and reps to acquire that kind of body - so you can do whatever your body can handle and start 8 -10 reps - if you feel it's getting easier you can either do as you say same weight more reps or heavier weight and 8 - 10 reps (sets of 3) .... if you're not sure consult one of the trainers at the gym that's what they're there for & you won't be charged for asking them a question... good luck and congrats on the weightloss!

Yes, less weight more reps. Additionally doing lots of reps will build your endurance. Thats a win-win situation! Keep in mind the more you exercise, the harder it is too lose weight. You body becomes more efficient at calorie storage/burning, so don't give up the fight.

That's what I have always been told. See if your gym has a personal trainer and get a session or two set up with them to work out a routine for you.

Good Luck!
