I told a friend that I like her a whole lot, but I cannot date her right now. We decided to stay friends, but I said my feelings might grow if we did. As our friendship is growing leaps and bounds, she seemed ok with this. We are now really close and participate in flirty banter and unexpected handholding now. She said she wants me to get to know her better, and we are always around each other. Our eyes meet a lot.

From what it sounds like, yes. Take things slow and just let things happen on its own. Those are always the best ones. You never know, you might end up with the best of both worlds a bestfriend and a girlfriend or just a bestfriend. It's a win win situation, especially if you both play your cards right.
