It will be a long time if you are waiting for a diesel in the Tundra. Toyota has tried selling diesels in the States, with few buyers. Also, the Tundra is not a heavy duty pickup, like the 3/4 and one ton trucks from the big three with diesels. They are different vehicles, designed for different purposes. Maybe your dad needs to evaluate his needs in a vehicle and choose the one that fits those needs.

No news on a diesel tundra yet, but it sounds like it would get quite a few sales that way. Keep an eye out on the Toyota Website at http://www.toyota.com.

Go with the GMC. The Duromax has more horsepower and torque. I've heard from a Dodge insider that new emissions standards are causing problems with the otherwise stout Dodge motor. Move quickly if you want to jump on the diesel band wagon as everyone will be blanketed with emissions growing pains next year. Ford is coming out with a completely revolutionized turbo setup. It's a dual sequential turbo. Turbo lag is gone. The only problem being its offered on the F450 only. It's supposed to knock out 350 hp. @2,000 rpm. The torque is 650 lb. ft. It's got a slick twin catalyst. This motor is governed @325 hp. and 600 lb. ft. of torque, a little short of the Duromax.

Toyota isn't planning on selling diesel in the States for a very long time. Only about 3% of car sales are diesel, and Toyota doesn't believe it would be worth their time and effort. Besides, the new GM trucks are better anyway. When GM released info on there new trucks, Toyota had to rush to stay up to par with their own trucks. Don't believe it? Read Motor Trend.

they asian car compainies are at least a year or two off from making a diesel, and even then, i don't know if thier load capacities will be comperable to an american truck, and starting in 08 ALL new diesels will have to be smogged (at least in CA).

in short, if he wants a diesel import, he will have to smog it. he should buy an american diesel now because they will hold thier value better.
