Why do people treat cats as a disposable animal?

Some people look after there dogs alot better than their cats. Why? You don't see as many stray dogs running around as you do cats. Why do you think this is? What can we do to change this?

Both "A" and "lonewolf" are wrong. No matter your own personal opinion on the suitability of cats as pets, the fact remains that treating them like they were disposable objects is still wrong.

Cats like to hide, especially feral ones, so you won't likely see as many of them as you would dogs, which are pack animals and see people as dogs.

Cats see their owners (read: pink things) as cats, too; but as cats are also a lot less "pack oriented" than dogs, are often (mis)perceived as aloof, snooty and what have you.

Others have emphasized getting cats spayed and neutered and I couldn't agree more! An unneutered male will spray everywhere and do everything in its power to get outside where they can impregnate other females in heat (a noisy event to say the least), get into the nastiest fights with other unneutered males and, eventually, come home with torn ears and other wounds which can easily kill them!

I always loved what my mother-in-law told me about pets. She said, "We don't have dogs to protect us from burglars and we don't have cats to chase away mice. We have pets so we can spoil them."

So, go ahead and spoil your cat!

One reason I think we see more cats than dogs is because they get pregnant faster than dogs so they multiply quicker.
