Don't think so, after all many things are not as they appear to be anyway. TV news show you what they want you to see. Many of the large gatherings of Muslims in the middle east are "staged" for the camera. I do believe many things that I do not see but I also keep an open mind as to just what happened and how it happened.

Praise be to Allah.
No, You have to SEE to REALIZE, something which you believe in musn't be realized by your original sensations. So the only way to strenghten your believe is to be based on EVIDENCES.
That's why only believers will go to Paradise and disbeliever will go to Hill, insha' Allah. And that's why Allah provides manifest signs that are so clear to anyone and only Blind-hearted people reject it.
For example, Muslims believe that the Qur'aan is the word of Allah and this is based on VERY CLEAR EVIDENCES, try the following link:
http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ref=13804&ln=eng
Imagine that people saw with their eyes Allah revealing the Qur'aan could anyone deny it? Ofcourse not. That's why we are under great test which is the main cause of our life.
Try to feel how great the Holy Qur'aan is in the following verses as Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
"I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me."
Adh-dhariyat : 56
"How many populations have We destroyed, which were given to wrong-doing? They tumbled down on their roofs. And how many wells are lying idle and neglected, and castles lofty and well-built? -- Do they not travel through the land, so that their hearts (and minds) may thus learn wisdom and their ears may thus learn to hear? Truly it is not their eyes that are blind, but their hearts which are in their bosoms."
Al-Hajj : 45 & 46

Not but it has to be real or detectable via some method.
Religious people say you can't see the air but you believe in that - an argument I find exceptionally childish.

With Christ is the other way around - you have to believe and then you'll see ! but this world, it's traditions and dogmas, tell us that you have to see in order to believe!! that formula does not work with Christ!

Yes and no. I have to see good reason to lead me to a rational decision. I can't see air. I breathe it, and I can smell it sometimes, and if done properly, I can measure it. I can fill tires with it... but I can't see it. I know its there because I'm not an idiot. There are enough physically tangible things available to me to make that call with no faith involved whatsoever.

It completely depends on the source...
If you want me to believe in UFOs... You've gotta show me one. Right now I neither believe nor disbelieve in UFOs.... the jury is still out on Santa.
When it comes to the deity of Jesus... the wonders he performed and continues to perform... No I don't have to see to believe. My belief/faith in Him alone allows me to see many things that I was blind to before I accepted him as my savior and began studying his word...

Sight is but one of five physical senses, and that's not even taking into account mathematical application of logic.
So no, seeing is not required for accepting evidence. Evidence is all that's required, provided via any sense or application of logic one might like.
