Use baking soda with your toothpaste when you brush. It will help scrub off the unpleasant brown stains. Do this until your appointment for a serious cleaning.
And yes that is exactly what it is from.

Sure.. but tartar is probably the cause. .do you floss? It's so easy.. Do it three times a day.. I bring it to work.. floss after lunch.. etc.. I drink coffee, but dont smoke. No brown stains.. Good luck!

Yes. My dad was a heavy smoker and drank lots of coffee and he had the same problem. You probably need to go to the dentist and have your teeth cleaned. There is toothpaste that you can buy when you smoke. I don't remember the name of it.

Both can cause stains, though smoking is more difficult to remove.
