I think it's a stupid diet that does work. You lose the weight, but if you aren't really really careful you can put all the weight right back on in the following week. You lose a lot of water. You can lose about 7 pounds in a week, but may only keep about 3 pounds off.

It's not effective over the long term. You can't simply change your eating habits until you lose weight and then go back to the same old habits that made you heavier than you would like to be in the first place. You end up gaining all your weight back -- plus interest. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to make permanent changes in your eating and exercise habits. Yes, I know; so many people don't want to hear this. They just want some magic diet or some magic pill that will take away the extra pounds. I really feel sorry for people who are overweight and trying to lose because they're being sold a bunch of snake-oil by people who only care about getting rich. Do yourself a favor: Don't do the grapefruit diet. You'll be right back where you are right now but you will yo-yo from size to size. If you want to lose weight, do it the right way. Eat a more healthy diet and make exercise part of your daily schedule.
