Squeezing anyone too tight for too long could definitely bring on unconsciousness.

Perhaps the legend or saying comes from simply enjoying the bliss of being hugged. Taking a few deep breaths before being hugged would relax your body and allow you to feel the intensity of the person's hug.

Whenever we receive a true hug from a loving person in our lives .... it should feel "heavenly" ... even without passing out!

Enjoy your hugs but they definitely shouldn't be harmful to you!

Yes, it is very dangerous. For you, I think stepping in front of a speeding train would be a better way to do it.
