my wife has been taking bood pressure medicine 'LOTREL' 5/20mg one capsule every day for 4yrs. my wife is difficult to see doc. often because of job and doc office is too far away.
currently her blood pressure is 120 or lower in most days but some times once in a week it is 140. she asked me what if taking a pill every the other day or half pill a day instead of a pill every day.

i know asking doc is the best answer.

Very rarely, can people go off their anti-hypertensive medications. If you're also using lifestyle modifications like losing weight, a reduced salt "DASH" diet, and exercising, it's possible that the medication can be weaned.

You're right that the best thing to do would be to ask your doctor. Couldn't you call the office instead of making an appointment? Lots of offices can give advice by phone.

Recommendations are that you keep your (resting) blood pressure below 130/80, or 120/70 if you have heart disease or diabetes. So if your wife is consistently getting blood pressures below 120/70, and she has enacted lifestyle modifications, it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask your doctor to wean the medication.

Do not mess with the medication.. I asked the same question two years ago.. She's basically on it for life.. Mine's genetic.. I run, exercise.. eat very healthy and with out it.. it would go back up.. I take a low dosage too. .Dr. knows best! Good luck. Mine runs around 117/75 to 125/80... I monitor three times a day.

Do not mess with high blood pressure medication. It will kill you.I was taking it for a week and decided to come off of it because the side affects were so bad that it almost killed me.My aunt had a reaction while drinking and never woke up.Sure she shouldn't of been drinking but they said the meds where what did her in.Talk to her dr.
