i some what know what you mean because im a goalie in hockey. And by the way strengthen up your legs, it helps alot. Although it makes your muscles tighter do it. But anyway do every stretch. Sit down put your legs in front off you try to lay down on your knees. Also do the butterfly. Those are my favorites because they help me out the most. here are a list of others

-rest on one knee while the other is up at 90 degrees....then lean your body forward....its not the best explaination but youll figure it out

-practice one leg and full splits

-throw your legs over you head

-keep one leg strait and the other curled up to your chest...place you knee and leg on your chest or just your knee (you can do this laying on your back but i feel it mroe when i lay on my stomach

-get a rubberband for stretching...they workvery good

-do a little warm up before stretching

Stretching takes a long time. At first its hard to get into, but it gets alot easier and more fun. I could lay on my legs and do the butterfly all the way and i still had a little trouble doing a split.

in general its either something you can do or not do I have a sister over 200lbs and she can do then no problem at any angle. If you cant do them youll need to hire a gym trainer or also very very good for that a martial arts trainer they can help you to strech the muscles you need but this wont happen over night it could take a couple months
