10 Years, except it is kind of 9 1/2 years that it is good for. Your passport needs to be valid 6 months beyond your return date.
Ex: You arrive back to the US Jun 10th 07 - Passport expires Jun 18th 07. This isn't acceptable for most countries to where it is a good general rule to go off of.
Renewals aren't quite as expensive as the initial application for the passport.
