If you base the split on consumption, you can't go wrong. Pay for what you use.
You pay for your bedroom. They pay for theirs bedroom. So, if you are sharing a condo, that would be a split. But, everything else should be split three ways.
On the other hand, if you have the master bedroom with the jacuzzi and fireplace and they have a regular bedroom or vice-versa, that should be accounted for. Whoever enjoys the nicer accommodations should pay more.
Food: you pay for your own food; they pay for their food. If you are shopping and cooking, that would clearly be 1/3 for each of you.
If you rent a car and all three of you use it, that would again be 1/3. Just base it on consumption and it will be fair.

It is probably best if everyone pays their own way, but if that isn't possible, the costs should be split 3 ways. But if you are renting something together, like a lodge, and you use one room and the couple uses one room, that should be split 2 ways. If the couple gets the larger bedroom then they should pay a little more than half. You should discuss in advance to make sure there are no problems later. I wouldn't count the dog as long as it doesn't get its own room, and the couple should be feeding it and taking care of any extra dog-related expenses on their own.

If you are good enough friends to go on vacation then you are good enough friends to see that the dog doesn't count as far as expenses and the fee for the people is split 3 ways, there are 3 people. The dog is the responsibility of his owners. Money should never be important enough to ruin a really good relationship. I will pray all goes well.

Definitly split 3-way. Why should you pay for half of your friends spouse. I'm married and would never consider it fair for you to pay half of the expenses if you're only one.
Hotel rooms and such are trickier though. If you each have a room you'll spend as much as your friend for your own. But there will probably be a slight extra charge for the additional person staying in there room. You'll have to pay for them seperatly or do the math.

No, you only have to pay 1/3 of the cost. They're one item but still 2 people. The dog is a free loader:)

A three way sounds fun.
All kidding aside. It should be split 3 ways. Your friends should pay as husband and wife (that's 2) . If there are costs associated with the dog then they should pay that too.

You are one of 3 so you should be paying 1/3. The dog is their responsibility if there's a charge for him.

Definately three ways. Married people should not count as one person. Have fun on your vacation.

My ex husband and I had two house mates at one point. I also had two kids. There were a total of six of us in the house. Each of our house mates paid one sixth of the household expenses and groceries. It isn't fair to ask someone to carry more than their fair share of the expenses. You should discuss this with them before going on vacation so everyone is clear on how expenses will be handled.
