If you live on a croft, with the dreech Scottish weather blowing throught the cracks in the door, I expect a wee whisky each night would be good for you. Even if the exposure kills you, you'll pass away a bit happier with a dram inside you.

If yoy live in a nice insulated, double glazed, centrally heated house the befefits are probably not noticed. However, after I've had about 6 I start telling everyone what I like best about them, and this does not happen with any other alcohol.

Anyway, I'm going now to trade in my nice warm house for a freezing cold butt and ben.

uisge-beatha is the gaelic for whisky, and uisge-beatha means water of life, and yes a nightcap before going to bed at night is good for you, it keeps you warm, thats why older genertations tend to take it at night.

in responce to albinopol's answer further down, whisky is not irish gaelic, whisky is an english word, but the gaelic is uisge-beatha, irish gaelic for whisky is uisge-beatha or depending were you are in ireland it sometimes refferred to as fuisce, if you doubt me please check out an irish gaelic dictionary online.BTW there are a few gaelic languages, it is the pronunciation and accents that make it sound like different gaelic languages, the majority of gaelic words all mean the same at the end of the day,

Funny thing is that we all know that alcohol isnt good for us!

But you should also know that Whiskey is extremely fattening while also slowing down your metabolism allowing your body to absorb any bit of fat that comes its way.

So if you are on that diet and just not loosing the kilograms... then stop the drinking.

In small amounts it can be good for you. BTW there are multiple Gaelic languages, I think whiskey is Gaelic Irish, but I could be wrong on which one.

Old people rely on old wives tales and flat out BS. That's the reason the average life span was 50 years old 100 years ago.

A little of most things is good for you. If it helps you sleep so much the better. As to old people, too much of it's not likely to stunt their growth is it?
