Well, first of all, Birdsflies answer is pretty myopic. In many cultures around the world and throughout history, women do not and did not take on the husband's last name. Even in many so-called "Christian" nations, it is customary for the woman to retain her name or the name of her father's family. So, "one flesh" doesn't have anything to do with what our last name is.
Personally, I don't go for all that 'the two become one' fluff. If the two become one, then what happened to the other half of each? Do the individuals disappear and morph into a combinationperson?
I think in a healthy relationship the two become *THREE*. That is, each of the two retain their own identity and individuality; but, in addition, there is an ethereal "third" person that is made up of the blended spirits of the two. That way, the husband and the wife continue to be who they are - and to rejoice in the wholeness of one another. But they also have the 'person' that is the creation of the two together.

A man and a woman live independent and separate lives until they are married. Once they are married they are to become one flesh. They are two but as one. The wife is to submit to the husband just as we both are to submit to Christ. Marriage is a reflection of Christ and the church. Christ is the head of the body. He is the head of Christians and we submit to Him. To keep order and unity and to be a reflection of Christ, the wife is to submit and adapt herself to her husband. She is a helper. In turn, the husband is to love his wife and to die for her in the sense of to love her more than he loves himself. Now, this is Biblical but most people prefer the typical American approach of 50/50. But how can a house divided stand?
I think typical Christians don't understand the true meaning of marriage and it's importance in the Earth. Christian's have a 50% divorce rate which is same as non Christians. A divorce would never happen if both people had Christ as their center. It's a shame to see the state of marriage and family in the world today.

It is the bond that comes from (what is supposed to be) marriage by having relations with your spouse.
Unfortunately, people have relations being unmarried, and in doing so, it creates a bond that rips your hearts in two, when broken (unless you marry and stay together). Nevertheless, it is a bond created through having relations.

Well, sex is the obvious answer, but I believe it goes deeper than (x) inches. First, I believe it means they have children. What could be more of a merger than a child. I also believe that it means that you think of the other person as if they are an extension of your body. Everything should be viewed with spouse in mind. Money should not be "his or hers," but ours. If I go do this do I rob my family of it? In other words we quit thinking of our own needs, but regard the spouse and later family first.

In Marriage a woman takes on the last name of her husband, & as God had taken a rib from Adam He also took a little flesh with that rib to make a woman, therefore in marriage they become as one, & Adam said that she is bone of my bone & flesh of my flesh. So a man & woman becomes one in marriage.

It is talking about sacred unity or what some call God. When the two become one. Restoring things to there original nature before sin. This happens when one sees God, they die to what they "thought" they were. To be in the garden again. To see the Goddess unveiled.........Ahhhhhhh.
