If one were to go with the notorious wager, we would have to worship *all* of the known gods in order to be safe, right? About 10,000 of them? Although the greeks would be at the top of the list...

They were real to some extant.There was a time when some of Lucifers fallen angels mated with the women of the Earth(see Genesis 6) and created these strange Hybrid giants on who the Titans were based and the Greek Gods.That is according to Flavius Josephus a 1rst century Jewish historian.That's one of the big reasons God sent the flood and wiped them out.(They weren't "god" enoough to escape the flood) Some of their diembodied spirits,1/2 human 1/2 angel wander about.They are the true demons.Most of the full blown fallen angels are chained in a dimension at the Euphrates river.
I know that all sounds totally bizarre but that is almost all taken here and there from scripture.

If you've ever read anything about the Greek gods, we would be in a sorry state of affairs. They were an arrogant, elite, capricious bunch of losers.

There's just as good a chance of that as anything else!
Remember that Star Trek episode where they met all the gods on another planet? It could happen! ;-) Now, if I recall correctly, we just show them that we've outgrown them and don't need them anymore.

Incidentally, this reminds me of a short story I read recently...In the story, the EGYPTIAN gods and goddesses were real, and you can guess how that turned out.
