I am 5 foot 8 inches, and am heavy "up top". I've been described as having an hourglass figure. But I am not sure how much I should weigh. I am about 160 right now, but I feel I could lose more. What is a sexy, yet HEALTHY, weight for me?

I'd guess you should lose about 25 lbs to be at an ideal weight for someone "heavy up top." If you need specific confirmation, feel free to send me pictures at onadrad_wow@yahoo.com (clothing optional...)

We live in a crazy society where unfortunately too many people live with the idea that you can never be too thin. I think that's bull. Honestly it's what you see when you look in the mirror, what do you see, not what does someone else see. Your weight is certainly within the limit for your height, so it isn't a matter of you being overweight, and I'm not going to say, oh dear, you better get on a diet or you are going to have a problem with your health. That's not an issue here. The basic weight for somone 5'8" ranges from about130 to 165, I'm 5'8", and on a diet, so I know what I'm talking about. Does it matter that you are on the higher end, no, not at all, nor would it matter if you were at the lowere end. I gather you are not a small boned person, so you aren't going to be 130 pounds unless you start starving yourself, which is ridiculous. You might want to lose about 10 pounds, I always feel better at about 150 pounds, but that's me, I'm bottom heavy, and that's where my stomach seems to get flat. So, go with what you are comfortable with.

The standard way of figuring this out is using BMI (body mass index). According to this your BMI, which takes into account your height and weight, is 24.3. The range to be considered normal weight is having a BMI in between 18.5 to 24.9. so as you can see your BMI is in the upper range of normal. If you were to lose 20 pounds your BMI would be 21.3 which is right in the middle. I think the middle of the range is a great place to be. Getting down into the 19 range in my opinion is pushing it. However you have to take other things into account as well. BMI does not take into account your body composition. Muscle weighs more then fat, so if you are muscular then your BMI might be higher but you are healthier then someone with a lower BMI then you. So BMI is a good starting point, but if you feel good about yourself and are eating well and exercising I would say that is equally important.

According to the Body Mass Index, someone your height could be considered healthy if they weighed between 122 and 164 pounds.

So, you would benefit from losing more weight, but you're at the point now where your weight is no longer unhealthy.

Depending on your age then you could be good. A healthy 20 year old at 5'8" would weigh around 140. Check with your doctor to see if your weight is good for someone your age.

Good Luck

that is very hard to answer. It greatly depends on your build. You are 5' - 8" tall and large at the top. That is pretty tall and if you are not the skinny toothpick type than your weight is probably close to where it should be. Most important are you happy with the way you look? If you are than your weight is perfect..

Depends on how much muscle you have. If you are in shape, 140 sounds about right. But since fat weighs less than muscle, weight can be deceiving and the best guage is how you feel.

Depending on your frame size and amount of muscle you have, anywhere from 120lb to 165lb is acceptable. If you want to lose a few pounds that is fine, but you shouldn't go overboard.

Take care : )
