I don't agree with just letting him walk. At three years old, kids still get tired. Plus, some toddlers are hard to keep with you. Everything is interesting to them and they tend to wander off. Only the parent can know if the child is ready to just walk. That being said, I would look at the Maclaren umbrella strollers, as they go to 55lbs. There is the Volo, which is about $100 and the Triumph for around $140. I would check eBay for used ones and cheap new ones.

I agree that perhaps you should skip buying the stroller and let the little one walk (but I don't think nasty remarks are valuable). I have a newly turned 3 year old and we walk everywhere. He loves walking, and would be angry if I were to even suggest that he should "ride" because he is a "big boy". You might be surprised that it is easy to walk with your child, maybe even easier than trying to guide and manipulate a stroller around town!

I think my jogging stroller is fairly lightweight (just not as light as an umbrella stroller). We have the Safari TT by Instep. It has a lot of great features: the handle bar can be ajusted for shorter or taller people, a tray on the front for the kid, a storage compartment underneath, weight limit is 50lbs, front tire has swivel or locked in options, seat can totally recline. It fits in the trunk of my Corolla with room to spare for a cart full of groceries. Might be something to consider. http://www.amazon.com/InStep-Safari-TT-Single-Stroller/dp/B000EI2O3Y

I really wouldn't bother with anything but an umbrella stroller. 3 year olds can walk on their own.

Just go somewhere cheap like Wal-Mart and buy a good one. A stroller should hold a kid bigger than that no problem.

The brand is called Nike, Reebok or Vans.
It is the new wheel-less stroller...the new name for them is SHOES.
The boy is 3 years old, 40 pounds and damn-near 4 foot tall and you think he needs a stroller? REALLY? He does not need a stroller, he needs a bicycle or motorcycle.

I REALLY DON'T THINK A 3 YEAR OLD SHOULD BE IN A STROLLER SO HAVING YOURS STOLEN SHOULD PUSH YOU INTO LETTING HIM WALK. MY LITTLE ONES DIDN'T USE A STROLLER AFTER 18 MONTHS, IT MAKES THINGS SO MUCH EASIER AND WILL SAVE YOU MONEY TOO!
