My husband and I are planning a getaway this fall to celebrate our anniversary. We just want a quick getaway - 3-5 days(ish), and nothing terribly expensive. We've already done the all-inclusive carribean thing. We're thinking a cruise, or something like that, but we need some ideas. Where is your favorite place to go for a quick getaway?

Where do you live? I hear that cruises are the best deal for the time and dollar spent, so I agree that would be a good choice if you live near a port, or could get cheap air fair to where the ship "sets sail"
Another idea would be to go to a Bed and Breakfast in an old town near where you live. We have lots of those here in Texas, and everyone I have been too has been so wonderful. We went antique shopping, took a walk by a lake, had great meals out, and just relaxed and enjoyed each others company.

A quick getaway? My husband and I do this eery year for our anniversary (basically because I don't get that much time off work or am saving the time for a big vacation). Anyway, if you're thinking of a cruise, the Bahamas is always great for a quick trip. We've also visited Gatlinburg and the Finger Lakes (Seneca, NY) in upstate New York. Both of the latter are fairly reasonable in price (tho Gatlinburg can be a bit overcrowded if too late in the fall so I recommend August or September). Finger Lakes is has lots of vineyards and it was wonderful visiting all the wineries and having a romantic dinner at Bellecastle (?).

As others are saying - depends on where you live.

West Coast - San Diego, old town. It's charming there with Mexican style palazos. A short drive from there is Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. Recommend the Best Western Hacienda Hotel - better than it sounds.

Mid-West - Chicago. Tons to do and a good theater district. Recommend The Drake.

East Coast - NYC if you like cities and theater, and the Shenandoah Valley if you like scenery. NYC hotels, The W and The Marriott Marque in Times Square. The Shenandoah has log cabins.

And you know what? The Canadian side of Niagara falls has a lot to offer including quaint bed and breakfast inns, botanical gardens, and a huge butterfly conservatory.

Enjoy!

Well, what's quick for me might not be for you. Depends on where you live, doesn't it? We love to go to the Finger Lakes in New York State for a 2 or 3 day getaway. It only takes us between 3 and 4 hours to get somewhere nice up there. But if you live in California or England, that wouldn't make sense for you!

I'm not sure how much it would cost, and not sure what your specific budget is or where you live.

St Paul/Minneapolis is great in Minnesota. They got Mall of America and the Como Zoo and other stuff in the area.

Wisconsin Dells in the middle of Wisconsin and anywhere in northern part of the state is good in Wisconsin.

In Virginia, visit Virginia Beach and stay somewhere along Atlantic Avenue in one of the hotels because you'll have the neat combo of being able to have the busy tourist thing as well as the more quiet ocean and boardwalk thing.

Washington D.C. is a great place to visit also.

I don't really know what you guys are into, but my husband and I have been planning to do a cruise (b/c they're not too expensive and everything is basically included) to Alaska. We thought that it would be something different that we would both enjoy :)

There are so many choices for cruises. I am a single mom and am hoping to go on one next spring. BUT my parents try and go on a cruise every 2 years. They enjoy themselves and it lets you go places that you wouldn't normally go. And also they have 3,5,7 and 14 days cruises. Anything to suit what you might like!

I always dreamed of a cruise. Something like the Loveboat, would be a bonus! Oh, have fun.
