Not a great idea especially since some leaves and bark can actually be dangerous. wilted and dried leaves from peach and cherry trees can have enough poison to kill (more often seen in grazing animals like horses and sheep). try redirecting that energy into chewing a kong toy or other more enjoyable treats.

I went through the same thing. You need need to reward him when he goes in the kennel, you know give him a treat and say good boy for kenneling up. Then you need to leave the room and turn the light off and shut the door. Praise him when you leave the room. He wont like it and he will cry and it will sound sad. Just ignore it. He will give up and sleep. It may be helpful to put a bed and a toy in there with him but no a squeaky toy. Make sure before you put him in he has had his dinner and been potty. It will very hard to hear him cry and you will want to go get him but he will learn that if he cries he can be with you and that bad habbit is hard to break. You may want to put a tv or radio in the room on low for sound and am little light(even a night light but not a lamp). Try avoiding making alot of noise near him when he is in the kennel he will learn soon I promise. Good luck!

No its not alright for them to chew on dead leaves or tree bark. You don't know if the leaves are poisonous. Tree bark can splinter and lodge itself in the pups throat and stomach. Then you have a real problem that need emergency vet care. Take them out of your dogs mouth and say no chew. There are a ton of toys your pup can play with outside, find some. Also did you know that there are some mulches that are toxic to dogs? The ones that are died bright red, also coco bark mulch. Both can cause death to small dogs and larger ones can cause kidney failure and death. It's your responsibility to protect your pet and to find out what is bad for them. Just log on to the computer and types in poisonous plants to dogs. It will surprise you what is and isn't there.

It's not the greatest diet, but eating some of that stuff won't hurt anything as long as it doesn't have pesticides on it. Remember leaves are vegetables!

Make sure he has a high quality diet, and his eating of non-food things might diminish, but some dogs just like eating weird stuff. You do need to be careful if he eats a lot of stuff off the ground. Some dogs will eat rocks and it causes stomach problems often resulting in surgery.

dead leaves shouldnt cause too much of a problem but tree bark could cause a blockage and a very large vet bill but my 11 year old goldie doesnt learn and still eats branches and bark until i catch him which is most of the time

Too many of our trees and shrubs are toxic. It isn't safe at all for him to chew on these things. I do like to give my pups a stick from a tree I know to be safe. Usually wood from a fruit tree is fine, but not from a nut or apple tree or mulberry..If you don't know which are safe, the best bet would be to discourage any bark or leaf chewing.

It shouldnt hurt him, but try and stop it. He is probably teething and may have tummy issues. Keep the dog on one pet food, it is not good to switch them around. I used Iams Puppy forumla. It is a little higher priced than kibble n bits, but it is what the SPCA uses with the shelters. Also, with larger dogs it is ok to give them rawhides. My lab doesnt like the white rawhides, but likes the clear rawhide chews. (they look like pencils almost- $2.99 at Target for a pack of about 30) They are also the typical dog bones. Try those to settle his or her tummy...but the leaves and such-I imagine he or she will stop...may have picked it up from somewhere...just be lucky it is not animal droppings. :)

They are healthy, one is a 13 month old German Sheppard and the other two, one part chow the othe part lab, same mother, papa was a fence jumper or mama a ______.

depending on the type of leaves and tree he is eating it from. there are many types of plants, shrubs, and foliage that are toxic to dogs. but it's okay for them to chew on them.

you should try to watch what they chew on, you might not see a splinter or other items that may lodge themselves in the mouth.

My retriever puppy did (he's now 16 weeks) and he did, but he spit them out. Maybe give him chew toys instead though...
