Like that dumb song "...because the bible tells me so". A bunch of people wrote the bible, and it has their own opinions and views and stories in there, just because someone tells you something does not mean its real, and just because alot of people think something does not mean its real either. Anyways my question is, don't you think its dumb to believe something just because someone tells you something?

Most stories you read are based on real places. Just because they found a building that was in the bible, doesn't mean that everything in it is factual.

The Bible doesn't constitute proof of anything, any more than "The Night Before Christmas" proves the existence of Santa Claus.

One cannot have God for his Father, who will not have the Church for his Mother, and likewise, one cannot have the Word of God for his faith who will not have the Church for his teacher. It is the infallible teaching authority of the Church, as promised by Christ, which alone preserves God's Word from erroneous interpretation.
Christ did not say, "Sit down and write Bibles and scatter them over the earth, and let every man read his Bible and judge for himself." If Christ had said that, there would never have been a Christianity on the earth at all, but a Babylon and confusion instead, and never one Church, the union of one body. Hence, Christ never said to His Apostles, "Go and write Bibles and distribute them, and let everyone judge for himself." That injunction was reserved for the Sixteenth Century, and we have seen the result of it. Ever since the Sixteenth Century there have been springing up religion upon religion, and churches upon churches, all fighting and quarreling with one another, and all because of the private interpretation of the Bible.

Agreed - It is dumb to blindly believe anything.
People believe the bible based on faith and have faith based on experience, desire, and history.
It is important for Christians to become invested in proper bible history and interpretation. But faith does not come from finding most from "scientific proof" of chariot parts found at the bottom of a sea, or any other explanation of a miracle. It comes from personal experience which is only available those open heatedly and open mindedly seek their creator and purpose.
Dont let extremist of any religion cloud your desire to find purpose and a creator.

No, I don't believe its dumb to believe something just because someone tells you-re: the Bible.
Many things in the bible are parables, thus open to interpretation by us. We have the right to try to understand them thru free will, I think that is why there are so many religions.

If that's true, then those that think that science says so are just as guilty. So I don't agree with you premise. Do you believe what the Bible says? Do you also believe what some scientists say? Remember, all scientists don't agree on certain things.
So are we to live our lives not choosing anything? Living life with only our subjective opinion, learning nothing from others? That seems like what you are alluding to.

Don't you think its dumb to say I believe it because the bible says so?
I would not use the word dumb but I would say it is somewhat foolish. To believe anything simply because a book tells you to is a bit much. Consider that other books tell people what they should do but most would simply disregard or at the very least give critical consideration before going ahead.

The Bible dose not prove God... God proves The Bible... it is the reversing of this truth that has brought about all of the divisions, sects, denominational differances.... if The Bible is all any one knows and has been taught then they will believe that... but if they ever truly come to God they will learn The Truth... and then they can truly begin to study The Bible... because only when one knows God and is able to submit to His leading will God reveal to the individual what He has for them there.

Not if there's sufficient evidence to show me otherwise.
-Archaeological finds of persons and places which authenticate historical stories of the Bible.
-Prophecies written 1000s of years before which have come to pass
-5600 copies of the New Testament echoing almost 100% textual pure form. http://www.carm.org/evidence/textualevidence.htm
-And the Power of the Holy Spirit which gives us FULL assurance
1 Thessalonians 1:5 For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. . .

per chance they in simple terms have a diverse definition of what a Christian is? the theory that a Christian must be defined as someone who believes each thing the Bible says is a modern-day invention. earlier the Reformation, a "Christian" meant someone who observed the preparation of the Church. And there are Christian at present who reject what St. Paul says about women human beings.
