Just tell him that you only want to be friends. If he asks you to go out tell him you'll go as friends and you'll pay your own way. Be honest about not having feelings for him - that way you're not leading him on.

Some guys are easier to turn down then others..I personally try to be as nice as possible but some guys don't get the clue and you have to be a little or sometimes really rude! there really isn't anything wrong with going out to eat or something, I mean hey it's free food right! If the guy seems to think he has a chance and asks you if you would date him or how ever he may word it, try saying something along the lines of, " I am not ready to date anyone right now..I am not interested in anything more than a friend relationship and I just want to see what it is like to fly solo for a while" saying it like that makes them think that you aren't interested in dating anyone at all instead of just turning them down. it kind of helps their ego out. Once you crush a guys ego you can forget about being his friend...guys are really immature about that kind of thing...

You have the right idea.
Be polite but assertive, making your feelings clear. I was turned down once this way, & now we're good freinds. If you draw the boundries early you can both enjoy what a good friendship has to offer.
Good luck!

Be blunt , not rude , but blunt. Tell him you have no desire to date him but enjoy having him as a friend and someone to talk too. He ofcourse will always hope he can convince you he is datable as time goes on. so end it now or end it later, men rarely want to be friends. My wife asked me on our second date if we could be friends...ha told her no, if thats what she wanted then I was the wrong guy for her...Honesty , always the best policy.
