Well the "best" answer would be no, obviously. Fortunately, here in the REAL world, where some parents still let their kids be kids, I have a 22 month old son who has had gatorade, whole grapes, peanut butter, hot dogs, and all the other "no" things and he has survived! Gosh, maybe it was because I was there watching him, not off talking on the phone or doing laundry and letting him choke silently on his own. If you give your kid something like gatorade in moderation, just as something different, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, your kid will be fine...

Gatorade is not juice. It's a drink that has the sole purpose of replenishing lost fluids and electrolytes from excessive exertion or illness. Unless your child has been sweating profusely or has a stomach bug in which they are vomiting and suffering from diarrhea, there is no need to give them Gatorade. I would suggest trying all the Juicy Juice flavors if it's variety you are looking for. Juicy Juice is 100% juice and has no added sugar, which is better than Gatorade any day.

I asked about this at my daughters last check up (she is almost 3) I drink Gatorade/powerade (not all the time but sometimes). So she wants to drink it. Her DR. said it is not the best drink for her. With the high salt content and very little nutrients. Her Dr. however did say it is better than soda. It will not kill a child to drink it. But water, milk, even juice is a better option. (they make flavored water) Even lemonade is better than a sports drink for a child.
If they are sick you and you child does not like the peadylite(SP) you can dilute a sports drink with water(half and half)

I don't think you should give your child this at all (or unless, as someone mentioned earlier, after the stomach flu). Many schools are eliminating these drinks from the school vending machines. Your child should drink primarily water, with milk coming in second, and lastly, 100% juice. Childhood obesity is now being directly linked to the amount of sweet drinks our children consume. Get them used to drinking water....and they will be much healthier for it.

Gatorade is OK, the only thing bad about it is the sugar in it .. well, same can be said for any juices. So anything in moderation is fine.

No it is an awesome choice for toddlers because it keeps their electrolytes up to balance and is a great non sugar loaded substitute to juices and soft drinks. I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old and that's just about all they drink and they have two cups of milk a day. But you should also check with your pediatrician if you would like a "professional" answer. I hope this helps somewhat.

I took my daughter to the ER and surprisingly, the doctor ordered for her to drink Gatorade instead of Pedialyte. She had a stomach virus.

Yes! Sport drinks in general are not recommended for children because of their high salt content. I may be wrong but im sure it says they should not be given to children on the bottle. plain water is all a healthy child needs to quench their thirst and rehydrate

ANY JUICE CONTAINING SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. TRY MILKSHAKE FOR A BIT OF VARIETY....LOTS OF DIFFERENT FLAVOURS AND CALCIUM TOO.
