I mean, why go over into another country and try to help them when you can't help the people in your own country?

No, it wasn't senseless. Maybe ill-justified, poorly planned for after the victory itself, but not senseless.

The real reasons we're in this pickle are (IMHO):
1) not having sufficient manpower to do the job,
2) cutting the European powers out of reconstruction contracts, and
3) de-Baathification. Why fire the only people who knew how to run the country?

its not senseless but it sure isnt what the goverment says its all about . the hole point of the war was really to get a foot hold in the area. they thought that the people would be thrilled to have western people free them.
i dont think iraq will ever be a peacefull place unless a major military force is there . one so big that most every place a person went they would pass through a military check point.
it can be done the germans managed this very well in some places but the idea of doing that and having the people there love you will never happen.
the answer is too pull most of the troops out leave only advisers trainers and spies there.
then park a few ships and a aircraft carrieer off shore and agree to support sensible govermeny policy by bombing places that need it.

People in America are free to succeed or fail. All on their own.

The war isn't senseless. Ask some service people. All those I know (except 1) that have gone (been a military wife for 10 yrs) say that we need to be there. Even the ones that are heading out soon for their 3rd rotation...and one is even mad that he can't leave with the rest of his unit due to a medical procedure.

Yes, I agree we need to rectify our own problems. Why are we giving millions of dollars to lebanon--a country where some ppl hate Americans and who support the terrorist group Hezbollah. All that money that is going to the war in Iraq should be used to better our health care and education system.

There will eternally be problems in your home country regardless of who is in power. Society will constantly be demanding of services and help from government. This does not stop aggressive activity from other factions or nations as we have found out on several occasions. War in and of itself is senseless. Defending your people and its interests are a fundamental duty of government and without that all other questions are moot. Just because you have common sense doesn't mean that everyone else does as evidenced by murder, rape, theft and other crimes on a daily basis around the world. Just because you don't want to fight a war doesn't mean you will not be attacked. If an enemy has sworn to destroy you in the name of God because they have fundamental differences with you, you have no choice but to agressively defend yourself or be destroyed. Those that only respect force will not be deterred by deplomacy as we are finding out in the middle east. Voices of moderation are consistantly drowned out by the unending diatribes of the extreme. Sometimes you are left with no choice but to fight if you believe your family, friends, neighbors, traditions, institutions, and religious freedoms are worth defending. That is the ultimate test. The value you place on the safety of your countrymen and freedom and liberty for all will determine the future of our children. The voices of retreat and surrender will not deter your enemies from effectively striking and mortally wounding your country or way of life.

the sense?
what sense?
senseless as in nonsense?

Bush and Rove have a sense to rule the world
Ah... The New American Century and it's hegemony.
The plan is there so it's not without a plan of action.

The plan just doesn't have any common sense!
I suppose sense is not that common in America or the West for that matter?

THIS WAR IS UNLAWFUL... PERIOD!!!!

No thinking person would consider the situation in Iraq as being senseless. The Iraqi people violated every promise that they made when the Liberation of Kuwait war ended. They used funds earmarked for food to purchase more arms and to fund the mulsim terrorist of the world. They stock-piled arms in hopes of becoming the Nazis of the last century. Iraq sold their food to advance the muslim agenda: to destroy Israel, the Jewish people, the UK, the USA and all Christians.

Can't win, don't try. Good attitude.

Long story short: Winning in Iraq can prevent World War III by keeping Iran in check.

Yes, invading Iraq will end up being the biggest plunder any President has ever made in the history of America. The Taliban took credit for 9/11 and what has happened since Bush took his eye off them? They are as strong as ever and operating in Pakistan. So exactly what gains does Bush have to show in the war on terror for the billions wasted in Iraq and all the lives lost? I'd say absolutely nothing.
