Hey.
I just bought a bench press - I can already do sets of the max. weight (prob 150-ish)

What im wondering is... Is it bad to just bench press?
What else can I do WITHOUT BUYING EXTRA EQUIPMENT?
I weigh about 155 and want to start working out..

Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

You can use the bar to do bicep curls, tricep extensions (lying down on the bench), squats, deadlifts, military press and shrugs, in addition to your bench press. This pretty much works out the whole body. Do a set of each of these every two days and eat well - you'll build a good muscle base.

first off stay away from sport authority they will rip you off for what you need. look in the paper ,your local thrifty ads, any salvation army places ... for a used set. If your talking about missing the uprights? the two bars the hold the weight above your head, yea you need thoughs. As far as training and what exercises?? weight training is an art, a way of life. research, learn, read. don't give in to those health mags. most of the products are over rated, exercises are designed for someone who lives in the gym and has a strait I.V. of steroids. you won't show ANY muscle if it is covered in fat soo start small walk every day a few miles then maybe run a short part then walk and so on...until your running your whole route. look at your diet.. 60% of a good program is a good diet.

I am taking a class in Strength training at my college. The teacher said that you need to work out ALL muscles, reps between 8-12 for normal building of endurance, 15 for weight loss.

I do upper body, then legs, then arms. But everyday I also do 30 mins of cardio. I can tell you it's worked out wonderfully for me. If you work out all muscles you ensure your body mass will becomes stronger for all muscles. You need to work out upper & lower as to not look unbalanced.

I have a book from my class, It's called Wight training for life. It's an 8/12 by 11, spiral book which is relatively thin. It's pretty good for reference. if you need the author, let me know.

Good luck, and hope you get the results you're hoping for!

well, i guess that makes u a positive thinker! no its not bad to just bench press, the fact that u r doin something for ur body rather than nothing. and u might be able to squeeze ina few crunches with that bench, w/out buying more equippment!

would u give this a best answer?

Standing curls (biceps), shoulder presses, triceps presses, lie on the floor, place your legs on the bench and do crunches... place your feet on the bench, ands on the floor and do push-ups, varying the distance between your hands.

good advice from the first guy

what I want to add is Bent over rows(look it up if you dont know what it is)
by working out you want to build a balanced physique and not a big chest with no legs/back/shoulders

good luck to ya

I think it would be best to do other weights aswell, because just doing it in the same position will just work one area of muscle
