I applied for a passport on Feb 1st, it has been 19 days. The Clerk of Court took the check out of my bank but the passport agency has not taken the passport charges. My fiance and I are both not in the system on the Dept of State website "check your status" link. I have been trying 1 day last week, and then again today at 10:40,11:10, 12:35, 1:47, and then again at 2:15 to call the agency to get the status...No answer. Infact it goes through a thing"we are experiences high call volume...please call back or go online...thank you ...click". I need it by April 25th, and that is exactly 10 weeks from when I turned it in (10 wks is the longest it will take) but the website says it is available to track after 9 days and it has been 19! Help! Anyone have the problem and resovled it? any clues? I need the birth certificate I turned in with it to get on the cruise, or else I have to buy another one!

I would suggest instead of trying to call to go to the Government center where you applied and see if they can direct you in the right place.

If you are currently located in the state you were born in, if you need to buying another Birth Certificate isn't that big of deal. Should only be like $12.00 dollars, maybe a bit more. You could always expedite your passport.

Because of the new requirements the phones I'm sure can't handle all that call volume. They are just bombarded with questions, concerns, comments, etc.

When you go to the Government Center ask them about the Expediting process and when they recommend you do it by, if you need to.

Good Luck to you!

I am in the same situation. I applied for a passport 2 weeks ago and I'm leaving on a cruise in 6 weeks (from today) I'm not worried at all but I do have a plan B. If the passport doesn't come in 3 more weeks I will buy another copy of my birth certificate. I've been on 3 cruises before and they are such a blast. Try not to stress out. Think about all the fun you'll have. Enjoy! Hope this helps.

Try checking here (just follow the steps) passportstatus.state.gov/opss/OPSS_Status_i.asp

But it can take 4 - 6 weeks to get your passport, so you actually have plenty of time!

And you'll need your passport too is you're a US citizen! With the passport and a valid driver's license or State ID, you shouldn't need the birth certificate. The birth certificate was used to document that you are a US citizen, but since everyone needs a passport nowadays (since December 31, 2006), you shouldn't need your birth certificate to sail.

Right now and for awhile in the future, the passport division is clogged with people wanting to get passports prior to change in the law about needing pp to get back into U.S. from Mexico and Canada. Usual amount of time used to take 5 to 6 weeks unless you paid extra to have it expedited. Give it more time and relax.

My took about six weeks, others i have heard three weeks. Go to Dept of state website and you can check status under passport status daily.

I think you should maybe forget about the 25th. It aint going to happen. These passport people dont give a damn. They are that bad they are probably making you wait on purpose. The only hope you have of getting away on the 25th is Civil War. And that is highly unlikely & dont go and get any ideas about starting one. just chill out & it will sort itself out. Stressing out is not going to be of any use to anyone.

Best of Luck
