I strongly suspect that I have a hernia (more than a year now), but it really doesn't bother me, and it isn't really getting any worse. Assuming it is a hernia, are there any potential hazards to putting off the surgery until it gets worse?

If Madeleine had been found safe and well the following day then I believe the McCanns would have been charged by the Portugese police. And rightly so. However, I think the police are either waiting to charge them with a more serious crime or possibly will charge them with neglect at a later stage. If they were to charge the McCanns with neglect right now, there would be certain infuential people and other wellmeaning folk shouting that the McCanns had suffered enough due to the loss of their daughter and I think public opinion would turn slightly in their favour. Be honest, can any parent out there tell me anything more devastating than the loss of YOUR child? Social Services have apparently visited the family, and were satisfied that the twins were in no danger. Well, let's face it, they are under the spotlight right now, it would be completely stupid to leave the twins alone. Just as it was completely stupid to leave all 3 babies alone that night.

I had a hernia several yrs ago. I was told by dr it is not life threatening, but had surgery because I looked pregnant & had trouble fitting clothes. The 1st surgery was to push protrusion back & sew muscles. It took 3 wks recovery & was EXTREMELY painful. I even needed help to get up to go to the bathrm. 2 wks later stitches tore open. This time the "gauze-type" thing was inserted, had minimal pain & I was up that nite. If you opt for surgery, INSIST on for the gauze thingy. I've had no problems since.

hernias never go away. they just get bigger. If it is abdominal such as inguinal, the bowel can slide into it. It can cause a bowel obstruction, strangulation of the bowel with dead bowel, a lot of the bowels can slide into it. Pants don't fit as well. The larger the hernia gets the more the skin gets stretched and the harder it is to get a good repair surgically.

If you have a hernia you will have a bulge in your lower abdomen, that bulge is your intestines, if you don't fix it you guts will fall out, that's really really bad.
