Me and my fiance went to our weekly artist gathering and coctail hour. I found it very rude that our friends did not make a big deal of it or offer by us a drink!
What do you think?

Do you mean to ask is it rude for you to expect others to pay for your drinks?

Yes. They should be there to support you and celebrate your success. Part of that is to congratulate you and offer to buy you a drink. Seems like it would be the polite/nice thing to do for a friend. I guess you can't be too upset though since they did have the courtesy to actually show up.

It's rude to EXPECT people to buy you a drink. Maybe they don't think your engagement is big deal because people usually throw engagement parties to celebrate with friends once they're engaged. Why are you expecting people to throw you party? That's self centered.
YOU should be the one buying the crowds drink. You're happily engaged, share your happiness.

Go ahead give me thumb down.

A big deal of what? Were they just finding out you were enganged?

Yes, they should have offered to buy you both a drink. Maybe they were just jealous or didn't want the attention off of them, unfortunately some people are just selfish like that.

I, personally, would have offered to buy you drinks UNLESS there was just no money in my pocket.

Could it have been that your friends didn't have the money, but really wanted to buy the drinks had they had the money?

I really think they probably would have paid for it but something held them back (like money)

It wasn't rude. Why would you expect them to buy you a drink? Did they congratulate you? That would suffice.
