Will ship tomorrow. I need to know what to expect other what i read and stupid recruiters tell me. I'm 30 years old so i'm not a kid. Do I need to bring my rental agreement for my housing allowance? I have 3 dependants, are they going to give me my pay right away? I was told about the 15th of march i get my first pay. Is that half of the pay and housing or the monthly lump sum?

Also, what do i need to know in terms of behavior and stuff?
I go to fort jackson after the boot camp. am i free then to email and regular life?

Anyone please, let me know as much details as possible. Thanks

Well, my bf just finished. He's 24, and was slightly frustrated by the level of maturity of some of the recruits (they're 18-20 mostly) so that will be something. It obviously sucked, but he said it was mostly a "do as you're told and you'll be fine" thing. However, you will get smoked for people not understanding that - a whole lot of PT.

I know it can be different depending on your DS and whether you are Active Duty Army or National Gaurd / Reserves. He got a phone call when getting to reception, then nothing, then averaged out about once a week. Tell your wife to write you lots! I know some guys who got emails and stuff, but mine wasn't one of them.

As for the dependant stuff, I don't know that much, but I know some other "married w/ children" couples, and they didn't get thier BAH for awhile, there is a delay. You should've filled out paperwork getting them on Tricare and things already (i think), if not, you might do that at Reception. My bfs pay was delayed, but they gave him a card to pay for the things he needed to buy for BCT & it came out of his first pay check.

My bf is at Airborne school right now, and all AITs are different, but you should have more freedom. He has his cell phone back, and weekends/nights off, but from what I hear, it really depends on your MOS. Good luck!!

Take the rental agreement and any other paperwork (copies) that you would grab first thing if your house was on fire....that's usually a good guideline to go by whenever youre dealing with extracting pay from the government.

Fort Benning is lovely weather-wise this time of year...be glad you aren't going there in the summer.

It's a nasty town...but there's lots of stores and restaurants.

The pay (BAQ) is given divided up into two shares paid every two weeks...on the 1st and 15th of the month...for example, if your BAQ is 400 dollars, it will be paid in increments of 200 dollars per paycheck.

You won't be getting a housing allowance until you get to your first duty station, AFAIK. You'll be paid from day one but will have to wait until 30 days to be paid. You can also request to be paid twice a month.

Did you make sure you have a direct deposit account set up?

AIT is not exactly regular life, but it's an improvement over Basic. You might have access to email via a computer lab or library on post.

A lot of things may have changed since I joined (94). My first paycheck was literally a check handed out in formation, but that doesn't happen anymore. If anyone here has been a drill sergeant recently, they may have more insight.

do you honesty think the army is going to give YOU money to come see your son graduate? they already gave him a job and got him off your couch... what more do you want? well the 300 soldiers that will be graduating in his class alone. don't forget te 300 graduating the same week from Jackson, Leonardwood, Sill, Sam, yeah that is cost effective. if you are looking for a discount try priceline. or travelocity. then when you check in ask for another one. ask for a free upgrade. tell them you want to fly 1st class because your SON in in the army. tell the rental car people too. make sure to tell them a SOLDIER might ride in the car. that will surely do the trick.

If your recruiter is "Stupid" you should have not gone with that recruiter.... you should have made a complaint. All info should come from your contact point: your recruiter. sad sad sad.... call Benning- they may be able to help you- or go look on line at their site... good luck and God Bless- thank you for the choice to serve!!!! ><>

i am retired us army...i was a drill instructor at ft benning 2 times...the army has changed since i retired in '95...take all your paperwork for your dependants....including SSN#s....they will give you an initial pay ...then your monthly pay will kick in...all monies owed for housing...ect..ect...will kick in ...and basically you will end up with a "fat" check...you can also make out "allotments" to send monies to your family...they can be direct deposited...so make sure you bring bank routing numbers...account numbers...ect...keep mouth shut as for behavior..do what you are told..keeps you out of trouble..good luck

I'm sorry that you decided to enroll in the army at this point in time. I'm doing what I can to try to bring you back home before you die or kill someone else unnecessarily. Good luck.
