I'm looking to buy a digital camera, preferably with 5-6 megapixels, and spend $200 or less. I'm just a college student, so I'm not going to do anything real special with it; just take it to parties, events, etc. However, the most important thing is that I want my pictures to look good. Any suggestions?

Just last week I got a Canon Powershot A530. It runs for around $150 (I got it for $110 on sale). I'm a highschooler, so I don't use it for anything special either, but so far I've been really happy with it.
(One of my favorite modes is called color swap, which means you can either select one color to highlight in the picture and make everything else black-and-white. Makes for some really sweet pictures!)
Good luck!

I bought a Canon Powershot A430 for $170 sometime in October, and it works great! The pictures turn out really nice and I basically use the camera as the same things as you would like to. It has 4.0 megapixels so a bit lower then you want it to be, but the pictures turn out crisp and sharp.

depending on where you live, future shop or best buy has on their flyer a 5 megapixel camera for under 200 after rebate. and besides pictures look good with 3 megapixels. 5,6,7,or 8 is just the size you can print it out on. so unless you are looking to make posters with your pictures you should be fine even with a 3 megapixel.

Why don't u go for Cyber Shot. It might be couple of bucks more than $200. But it's worth going for. Sony is the best in cams. So just go for a sony cyber shot. They have a great warrany service & trust me it wont have problem at all. the quality & the battery life is amazing comared to the cameras which got same mega pixels.

Trust me my bro bought a Kodak 6.0MP cam, the battery runs out like hell. Then I bought a 5.0mp sony cybershot for about $250 & it's worth it. I have been using it for like 1year and 6 moths without a problem.

I could spend the whole afternoon writing here the pro's and cons for all the dig cams under $200, but this guy did a good article. You should check it out.

Personally I'd take either the Canon or Sony.
