The war on drugs began after millions of pot smokers began saying no to the Federal govt. and Lyndon Johnson about Vietnam. "Hell no we won't go" was not what they wanted to hear, so they made pot and related consciousness raising drugs illegal. It worked pretty well replacing those drugs with meth and crack, etc. which keep people docile and depressed instead.
In addition, drugs being illegal raises the price for the consumer and the profits for the suppliers, while denying tax revenue for the govt., so one must ask why this is being done. Follow the money is always a good question.
Further our courts and prisons are clogged with cases involving drugs, costing us all hundreds of billions a year. What's wrong with this picture?
