My ex-girlfriend borrowed $800 in April of last year (2006) to pay bills. She also has a lot of my belongings at her house. We broke up in October, and she has been promising to pay me back. She has stood me up everytime we were to meet to do this. She changed her phone number this month, and quit her job. I know where she lives, but I have been unable to get a hold of her. I don't want to go to her house, because I am afraid there would be a scene.

I do have witnesses that heard her say she owed the money. My mother is one of them. I also have my bank records on the day I withdrew the money. Her 3 children were there when I gave it to her. Its looking like I will have to sue her. Do you think I will win if I do. I have also been told to have the police escort me over to her house to obtain my things. Is that a good idea. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have been in a similar situation, I would be curious about the outcome.

You have obviously tried to get in contact with her and it is not working. I don't know what kinds of things she has of yours, but you might be better off just taking her to small claims court and getting the value of the things you left at her house paid to you unless you really want to try to go over with a police escort. Although going over with a police escort might not do anything, you might not even get your things back since it will be hard to prove they are yours.

Call the police, get a lawyer & take her to small claims court. If you have enough proof that she owes you the money & that you still have things at her place. If you can't prove it in a court of law then I suggest you let it go and see it as a learning experience.

Those all seem like good ideas to me. Sue her and having a police escort may be the only way to get things done.

Try sending her a bill for the money and asking for your things back before you go to court it will help yu win the case if you do it that way.
Also have someone who knows she owes you sign the letter along with you that way she knows someone else knows how much she owes you as well.
Hope you get your stuff back.

I think police is the only solution to solve ur problem, because if she is been doing like this for ling time, then she is never going to give u ur money back until u use the best solution(police), u better hurry , before she change her location

Just keep asking her in a kind way to give your stuff back. If she said no, then leave and ask her again in another time.

Court is expensive and you might end up paying compensation to her.

Call the local Police / Sherifs dept. and see if they'll go with you to get you're stuff and Mention the $$ take her to Small Claims court. if you have proof.... you may get a judgement in you're favor.
