Buy the book and follow the diet exactly.
Atkins is not as simple as cutting out carbohydrates. You have to follow the guidelines in the book for it to work. And you can't cheat.

On Atkins you are limited to protien,that is pure protien. You can eat all the meat, cheese, lettuce that you want. Best to get Atkin's book and read it. As you go along you can add a little bit of nuts, but be really careful with those. Remember that it is better to have cream instead of milk in coffee. It's like changing your entire way of thinking. Things that would normally not make sense to you are what you now eat. Stay away from anything that says Carbohydrate. You are supposed to stay in the range of about 20 carbs a day. You can eat Atkins products, like their bars, which will give you some sweetness in you diet. They aren't too bad. The one thing you have to remember with this diet is that there is no cheating. You get to eat a lot, just keep eating that protien and you are fine. But slip up and eat a carb and your diet is really screwed. That's what I hated about the diet. It's like walking a tightrope. As long as you are good you lose a lot of weigt,but if you stay on it for a long time you get a bit cranky and really want something and, oops, you screw up and gain weight without realizing it. It's because your body is processing so much protien that you can screw up so easily.
As far as menus, get the book,it will give you recipes and menus, it's easier then me writing things out.

Check out the Atkins website for menus. If you are just starting this diet you should avoid sugar, fruits, nuts, soft cheeses, potatoes, and other high calorie vegetables.
For the first two weeks limit your diet to meat, brocolli, salad (watch the amount of dressing), cheese and eggs.

Do not eat more than a couple cups of whole green vegetables per day. You cannot eat any other carbs, refined or simple carbs. YOu can eat as much meat, fish, and fat as you like. You need to buy the book and read it for more details, but that's it in a nutshell.

Eat proteins with every meal (lean meats, eggs, cottage cheese), green vegetables, low-sugar fruits (berries, grapefruit, green apples), whole grains, and healthy fats
