The main reason for the Alcohol law being at 21 is driving. If they had it at 18 or 17 there would be a lot more of drunk driving accidents. Since young people are the most likely to party and drink. While at the same time learning to drive. New drivers and alcohol don't mix. The military is a good place to get money for college. As well as getting some real life experience. The older you get the more of a career you will build making it less likely to want to join.
Yes it is sad someone can die in war. However he will die for a reason. A drunk teenager will die for no reason at all. The truth is if young people were able to handle the responsibility of alcohol they would be able to lower the age. In the military you have to prove your self. Irresponsible people get kicked out.

Well here in Canada a 19 year old CAN buy beer.. however at 16 you can drive a motor vehicle (which is dangerous) but you cant buy lottery tickets, cigarettes, or alcohol... however at 14 you can consent to sex get pregnant and have kids.. but you cant even buy a lighter...lol Its double-standards in legislature, and it makes no sense. Think about it.. at 14 you could get pregnant, have a kid, then when you are 16 you can drive a car, then when you are 18 you can buy a lottery ticket and vote, then when you are 19 you can drink, smoke and buy a lighter.. doesnt make much sense does it? I mean really becoming sexually active and having a child should require more maturity, responsibility and years of life than everything else mentioned. I mean does it really make sense to be able to have kids before you can drive, drink, buy lighters/smokes, gamble and vote???

Because our government is weird.
There are medical reasons why some people believe it is best for people under the age of approximately 20-21 not to consume alcohol--for many people, they are still growing and their brains are still developing in the late teens. Alcohol may impair that. I don't particularly agree with this, but that's a pretty standard reason that I've heard about it. Don't worry so much, though--being able to buy alchol really isn't that exciting anyway.

Because (A) 19 year olds are known to be much more likely to drink and drive and cause death on our highways. The death on the highways dropped enormously when the drinking age rose from 18 to 21.
(B) 19 year olds are known to be much more likely to follow orders without question and enter into battle expecting to emerge unscathed. Most teenagers feel immortal. They are thus more likely to cause death among the enemy on the battlefield. I imagine that if we took older persons into battle, they would doubt the wisdom of their commanders mor regularly, and so the discipline of the force would diminish.
One rule is meant to keep the 19 year old alive when they feel invulnerable. The other is to wager on the invulnerable fantasies helping to allow the 19 year old to go against his own survival instincts. In reality, both laws are based on teenage immortality fantasies.

This is a great question. It all has to do with Government Hypocrisy. Same with voting. How come an 18 year old cant buy alcohol, but can vote on issue involving our nation....It doesn't make sense, other than it is hypocritical

I know. They should lower the drinking age to 18. I can go and die for my country but I can't sip a beer?

If 18 yr olds are still developing, then they shouldn't have to register for the draft until they're 21. Even Steven, let's be fair and sane.

Ah, tis an age old question.
They can vote.
Beer is something completely different. In some countries you can drink it at 16. Perhaps they should use their power to vote to get it changed.

That's a very good question. Excellent. Our world is corrupt because of sin. Because of sin, people walk in darkness and make terrible governmental decisions like the one you're talking about ( John 3:19 - "And this is the judgement, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.") . But, with Christ, we can be brought out of the darkness and into the marvelous light (although that doesn't mean it's good to drink either, cause it can kill you too). God bless you in Jesus' name.
