Don't let anybody kid you. Liberals in no way have supported the troops for the last forty years especially when they were not in power. They throw this little ditty about "supporting the troops" in when their intention has been and always will be to cut the legs out from under their mission. Everyone would love to live in a world where a military was unnecessary. Unfortunately, the real world has never and does not now work that way. Liberal attitudes go as far as limiting or eradicating ROTC from college campuses and barring military recruiters. They have eternally been at the forefront of constantly haranguing all aspects of military activity by our country in the world regardless of the mission. This type of behavior has always and is now jeopardizing our safety and the safety of the troops it is purportedly trying protect. Most of the greatest warriors in history had little more then an elementary or high school education. Battlefield sense and good old common sense have been the hallmarks of great warriors of the past. While strategic fundamentals are certainly helped by a person with higher education, it is not a significant barometer of battlefield performance in the average fighter. I have seen college educated officers who barely had enough sense to put one foot in front of another and high school grads with natural leadership and battlefield abilities that would put their superiors to shame.

I'm liberal and I support the troops.
That means equipping them with the best gear, paying them what they are worth, funding the VA and not sending them to be killed for a politically expedient lie in a conveniently distant land.
I'm a former college boy too, and a former weapon system designer, my company made the nastiest gear you ever heard of. I have no problem with that. I just have a problem with thousands of our people being killed so a smug fool can give tax cuts to his rich friends while you are too busy saluting the flag and calling everyone else unpatriotic to think about what you are being told.
People join the military for many reasons, a lot of people from my area joined because their choices were coal mining, poverty of the military. If I hadn't been lucky with the cost of my education I'd probably have joined the Navy or AF.

I've been in the military for 19 years. The right thing for the liberal's to tell everybody is they support the troops but not the war, it's politically correct. Recent history demontrates the opposite, it shows that in order to fund liberal programs, (domestic programs)they have to pull money from somewhere and it's usually from the department of defense. During his eight years, Clinton opposed pay raises for the troops, reduced spending on equipment, reduced the size of the active military, etc.. War is always going to become more unpopular the longer it lasts. How would you feel if your employer, spouse, or parent told you " I support you but I really don't support what you do". It sends a pretty mixed message. Elections are coming up, it's easy and safe to support the popular belief of the time. Unfortunately, I believe they are lying, they will support the troops as long as it doesn't take money from their agendas

Totally agree. After I got out of boot camp and I walked around Chicago in my dress blues, it was great. I got into some museums for free. I had people walking up to me, thanking me for my service, plus there's the whole effect a man in uniform has on ladies. Later, when I visited home, in San Jose, CA, it was the opposite instead of looking at me with respect, like they did in Chicago, people looked at me with a mix of contempt and pity, it made me sick. If you want further evidence of the liberals contempt for the military, just ask the people in San Fransisco who's cars were vandalized because the had a 'Support Our Troops' bumper sticker.

The mental gyrations a liberal has to go through to say they support the troops, but not the war, are amazing.
The troops have been called to do their duty, and the liberals claim to have the troops' best interests at heart. Yet they want to deny them the funding to do the job. They protest and demoralize the troops in the field. It's as if a football team trains for years, and when the Super Bowl comes, they're benched. (We don't want you guys to get hurt, now...)
I just don't see how they can claim their support, when in practice, they clearly don't.

I think that most liberals are brainwashed to the point they can not think for themselves. The Liberal leadership on the other hand, it is easy to tell when they lie. Their mouths are moving! As for supporting the troops as a vet I can only say that it was a liberal who spit on my Coast Guard uniform back in 1975. I do not think the those cats have changed their spots at all.

I think most people are saying "I support the troops but not the war" in the same way they would say, "Some of my friends are black, but..." and then go on to say something racist.
Basically, it's top-cover. If I say I love the troops, I insulate myself and can say anything else I want about the war.
Trouble is, you can't really have it both ways. (Hate the sin, love the sinner? Doesn't work for gays and it doesn't work for soldiers either.)
I appreciate that nobody wants to roll out the Vietnam War welcome wagon -- spittle and curses for troops coming home. ("Babykiller!") But most troops would prefer support for their mission as well as themselves.

I went to college with many intellegent people who wanted to go into the military. In my aerospace engineering class, there were 4 out of 25 students who were in the ROTC. Your liberal friend was right about Kerry though. Kerry was too dumb to get a job coming out of college so he joined the military. A smarter man would've gotten the military to pay for his college.

They are absolutely lying. The modern left is a counterculture in every sense of the word. They are the remnants of the hippie counterculture of the sixties, combined with the same sort of people who became hippies back then -- you know, people who can't make it in the real world, and find some way to escape from reality.
A counterculture is a movement that is against the current culture, and want it destroyed. The culture they want destroyed in this case is America. Since our troops are the defenders of our culture, they are deadset against them in every way. Why do you think their universal response is surrender?

I don't think liberals are lying and why can't anyone realize that more than 75% of the American people oppose the war? Isn't bring the troops home and out of danger supporting the troops? Isn't that the greatest support we can give them?
