I was a gunner, i am an MP, and this is my favorite weapon. It is straight up a bad *** weapon, but as one has already said, it is a belt fed weapon, usually with 100 in a can. We carry enough for the mission, lets leave it at that.

The M2 .50 cal is a belt fed weapon. The M2 fires about 450-600 bullets per minute. Average belt size is 100 rounds but a case of ammo can hold up to 1000 rounds. Not sure how many they load onto a humvee but I'm sure it's alot. But the actual gun only has one bullet loaded at any given second.

The Browning Mark II .50 caliber machine gun is a crew-served belt-fed weapon firing ammunition linked together in a belt that is fed into the weapon from the side of the receiver. The spent casings and the separated links are thrown clear of the gun out of the same port on the opposite side of the receiver. The ammunition belt for the weapon is fed into the receiver from a large steel ammunition can, which routinely holds 110 rounds. Due to the design of the self-destructing link used to link the ammunition into belts, it is possible to link as many 110 round belts together as you want to form one long, continuous belt.
When I was in the Gulf for Operation DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM, the normal load for the .50 cal Hummer we had assigned to us was three cans of ammo; one on the gun, and two in the vehicle. I'm sure the basic loads of today vary from unit to unit.

Ammo comes in belts of 100,multiple belts can be strung together into 1 long belt.
generally 400-600 rds are carried.
