If you travel direct to Scotland from USA you need a passport but no visa.If you are travelling between the countrys of the UK having once entered you need no passport and their are no border controls its like passing from one state to another in the USA.

Passport yes, but as people have said if you are a British citizen then you don't need a passport to travel in anywhere in you own country!
I believe if you are from the Irish Republic then photographic ID is enough for entry to UK but not 100% sure about it-maybe someone knows the ruling on that one. From everywhere else, you need a passport and proof of finance (creditcard, Maestro or Cirrus bank card) to support you during your visit for entry to UK.
If you haven't got money to spend, don't bother coming. We are an expensive country to live in.

No, you do not need a passport to go from England to Scotland,Wales,The Isle of Man,Gurnsey or Norther Ireland.
They are all parts of the United Kingdom.

You do need a passport to go to a different conutry, even if you are going back to Scotland. It depends which country your passport is, you might need get VISA too (tourist or working). Check with the embassy of UK

Yes you need a passport for going in EU from USA. Even if you were British you need a passport to go there from US. I believe you can stay over 3 months without need of VISA, but you should check with the British Embassy in US. Cheers.
