They've been talking about making possession of a passport mandatory to visit Canada. I'm going to Canada soon, and I'd like to know if I should get one. Thanks.

As of this year you need a passport to fly to Canada. US law requires you have a passport to cross the boarder by air. (entering or leaving) So, you need a passport or you can't get on your flight.

Sometime next year you will need a passport to drive or sea travel. It could be as early as January and as late as June, you have to listen for updates. There is a huge wait for passports NOW because of the flight restrictions. So if you are flying or plan on driving next year, the sooner you get your passport the better.

If you're going to Canada by plane or by boat, you need a passport NOW. If you're driving, passports become mandatory on January 1, 2008.

I think you do now. I saw a girl turned away from her flight because she didn't have her passport, and she was headed to Canada, and that was only a few weeks ago.

January 1st 2008. And that's if you are driving. If you are going to plane, train, or boat you still need your Passport.
