Religious beliefs have been invoked as a way of dehumanizing the victims of terrorism, or to justify actions which clearly conflict with widespread notions of just action.

Terrorism tends to be implemented by minority groups or groups without political access, which tends to radicalize them because they are outside of the mainstream. It's more accurate then to say that terrorism is driven by ideology and lack of access to power rather than religion itself. Indeed, I can think of no religion that condones terrorism.

Historically, terrorism has been primarily driven by politics. Granted, much of the terrorism that comes out of the Middle East has held it's roots in fundamental islam, however, that's not the only source of terrorism in the World.

To me, its always been economic. These people feel that the US is a giant country that gobbles up resources for an extravagant lifestyle of decadence and waste. We do. They are usually people of a simpler living culture. We deal with their oppressive govts for cheap labor and resources. We have sold arms to both sides of a conflict. We have toppled or helped topple democratically elected officials of sovereign nations. We do a lot of good in the world, but we do a lot of bad too. The bad stems from greed. Maybe the good comes from guilt. Our media doesn't tell us the price other people pay to keep us consuming. They tell us that our beliefs don't mix. Thats absurd. We are all just people. We want the same basic things.

yes terrorism is driven by religion and agreed by them as an act of god. take suicide bombers as an example they believe that what they are doing is for the faith of religion and they will be rewarded in heaven for there good deed that they have done and look toward other events like 9/11 when many people died and they claimed it was an act of god which is so wrong but yet they still do it and in the process many poor innocent souls die for nothing but an excuse for evil actions by people who are mentally ill and need help because i believe that god wants peace and happiness to all humanity and does not wish for this so called acts of good faith of there's. this all done out of hate crimes and religion is an excuss for there evil actions and i honestly believe that those who do evil acts of any kind will not be rewarded to heaven but hell that is if there is actually a god.

No it was primarily driven by greed, power, and control, religion was simply the icing on the cake for terrorist controllers, and then religion became an excuse and direction for terrorists today, and just look how widespread it has become in today's world.

In my opinion terrorism is driven by political and power issues. Religion is used as a tool by different people to fulfill their own interests.

that's open to interpretation. the people we call terrorists are other people's freedom fighters. the american revolutionaries were terrorists in the eyes of the british empire. in my opinion, what you call "terrorism" to me is that person's unwavering belief in something worth more that life itself. i am as appalled as the next person in the cases of sheer brutality but in order to solve a problem, you must understand it first. in that part of the world, religion is the most important thing, period. i don't agree with killing at all no matter if it's done by terrorist beheading or by tomahawk missile.

Religion is an unecessarily broad catch-all phrase. It suggests to me an unspoken bias. Most religion has nothing to do with terrorism.
