I have a 3 yr. old who has the attitude of a 13 yr. iold & I can't get her to stop being so hateful & smart with me, she even does it to my husband sometimes. But mostly me & I can't understand why. We don't talk to her like that. Could this be a result of sibling jealousy? We also have a 3 month old daughter.

She's doing it to get attention. You need to spend some special "3-year-old and me" time with her every day (like when baby naps). To stop it, you need to be calm but tough about "Don't you speak to me that way." Put her in time out and take away privelages. And be consistant about it, too...she'll probably get worse for a short time before she gets better, but she needs to know that she can't treat anyone, especially an authority figure responsible for her well-being, in this manner.

No its just a three year old acting out. Just tell her you dont want to hear that tone anymore!! Be firm and dont let her get away with it. Tell her that her smart mouth is getting her into trouble and maybe she should close it. Seriously time outs work good for mouthinesss and smart alec attitudes!!
