I have the canon S3 IS (i know it isnt a SLR) so i wanted to go look at some and keep an eye on them for when i have a little more money to spend. Do you think it would be easy to sell the S3 IS in a couple of years, or should i up grade right now. I dont want a slr untell i know what i am doing, or get more confidince in myself.

when you buy an slr
I would stick with canon
if you wait a few years
they will have many new models
I would keep the s3 for awhile
it is a fabulous camera

I have an S2 which is basically the same. For the money its excellent and has tons of manual controls for a P+S, but there are limits. It won't be hard to sell the S3 in a few years but you'll get a fraction of what you could get now. Get a Canon Digital Rebel XT, if you think you have mastered your camera, and you can dissect every photo you take, and realize what is not right (ie: iso, aperture, comp, etc...)

After many different Olympus cameras(they are good), I decided to upgrade and get a camera with possibilty of changing lenses. Got a Rebel XTi and it is super. Lots of new stuff to learn but you can be in full control.

for the money and features, I would go with the Nikon D200 10.2 mp. Great great camera! Buy it with the 18-200mm nikkor lens and it will set you back about $2200.00....OR save about $500 and go with the D80 BUT, you said the best ;)......I'm glad I invested a little more and got the D200...this camera should last me for years or untill the D300 comes out lol!
