Do religions take on the social norms of society??? (while often opposing them at the same time)

I think the culture and the elite of the society (power & money) dominate the social norms of any society no matter who the masses are. Sometimes they take the guise of religion or religious freedom... capitalism is the dominant factor in our society. As we are heading into huge monopolies like Proctor and Gamble or Bank of America, I wonder where America's headed ...

I think that's why I love the Bible with it's consistency ...
it never spoke against slavery (Philemon) but it did speak of how we are always treat one another...

Jesus said the O.T. laws could be summed up in:
"Love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength" ...
and the second is like the first...
"Love your neighbor as yourself."

There's consistency in throughout the Bible even through all the changing of the dominant cultural influences. (1000s of years) I can trust its' truth and the God of it who overwhelms me with his love. I can live in gratitude to His gift and relationship and love others around me as he's loved me. That won't change except for perhaps, understanding more of Him, being more thankful, and in turn being able to love more fully.

I wonder the same thing myself. Our government makes the rules and we have seperation of church and state . Thank goodness for that because if we did not then the religion with the highest numbers could take over and make the rules and can go to become really extreme. There are very many extreme christians out there that i would never want running the world.

God's Word the Holy Bible does not change. Other religions may change but Christianity should not change, because we serve a God that does not change. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.

No, the bad overcomes the good but it isn't possible for the good to overcome bad. It just takes more work for good to over come bad.
