You need to withold food and water both before and after the procedure, your vet will provide you with the exact times. She will be groggy and cranky when you get her back, that is normal, but if the lethergy persists you need to call your vet. The cat will need quiet rest for a few days, so no rambuncious kids, kitties or dogs. She should be confined for a few days to a small room where she cannot jump up on anything high..don't want stiches popped. the wound she also be monitered for swelling, seepage and color. you may see a small amount of serum crusting at the cornors of the wound, but if it is bloody or excessive i would call a vet. also the site may develop a "bump" or swelling..as long as it isn't enlarging or bigger than a nickel i wouldn't worry. both of my girls got small lumps on the site and the vet said unless its bigger than a nickle or growing not to worry about it, it should go away on its own. if it does not appear to be going away call the vet. seems a little to cautious but its better to be safe than sorry. and as a general rule if something seems wrong call the vet, it may be nothing or it could be something..its your pet take charge and do what you feel is best.- all the best to the both of you :)

You'll need special cat litter or it could get into where it was cut open and cause infection/irritation. For a few days your cat may seem a little lazy and not want to move. Try to keep an eye on the stiches to make sure yor cat isn't pulling them out. It may hurt her to jump so put her food, water, litter and where she sleeps close together and not high up even if you have to put it under something to make her comfortable and safe feeling such as a bed. You should call the vet and ask them for more info for anything you need to do before, I can't remember anything else. My vet gave us a sheet of paper with what we should do after the surgery.

when you get your kitten home, she may still be drugged up a bit and wont be able to walk well, falling over, etc. So you may want to keep her in tight quarters for a little while, while it wears off, just to keep her from hurting her self. Your vet will let you know how long to wait to give her food or water post op, but other than that, she will heal on her own.

If it is a male cat they put liquid stitches on and it is an very easy procedure. My black cat Lorne acted like nothing even happened when I brought him home. Females are more difficult ask you vet what post op care you should do.

All you really need to do it just make sure she doesn't try to chew on her stitches. Your vet might give you pain medicine to give to her, but that's not all that common. She may be a little lethargic for a couple days, but she'll spring back to normal in no time.

One thing to watch out for is that she doesn't lick the would too much. If she licks the area because it itches due to the stitches, you may want to get her a "funnel collar" (not sure of the real name of these) to prevent her from pulling the stitches.
Good luck. Thanks for spaying your cat -- that's a really responsible thing to do!

Check the wound daily, keep it confined for about a week (no jumping/running around), it will take a couple of weeks for the hormones to settle down, its a big operation, but it should be fine.

Your vet will tell you everything you need to know. All I know is that you cannot give food or water after 10PM the night before.
