I think the idea is that man spent too much time on Y/A and stopped talking altogether. Man's brain shut down from not thinking and the apes kept on adpating...

All those monkey were a creation of Paul Boulle (the man who wrote planet of apes). So they evolve from a man.

If I remember my POTA mythology well, Dr.Zeus (and the other intelligent speaking apes) evolved from modern (current) apes and revolted against their human masters.

I believe he was created by Hollywood specifically for the films, I could be wrong of course. Maybe you could talk to his agent, although, since he's dead, that may be difficult.
