It may not be the popular answer, but for the safety of the drivers it should most definitely have been thrown. Who else watched Inside Nextel Cup when Biffle was talking about having to go in reverse and dodge a burning car (Bowyer) to cross the finish line because the flag hadn't been thrown yet. They also showed Gilliland flying through the grass and coming back up into traffic so that he could get the best finishing spot he could. This was all very dangerous and wrong.

not really NASCAR was in tough spot one its the biggest race of the year and to start it off and disappoint the fans with a yellow finish between Martin and Harvick would be a slap to the face
Two yes I am a Harvick and I was cheering for Martin to pull it out but to yellow flag the race from the wreck with the two of them out front would be a diservice to both Harvick who had an incredible run over the last 20 laps and a great driver and great man like Martin. Lastly either side could have complained that they got robbed had the yellow be thrown Harvick and his fans would have a legitiment gripe about it even mores so with that fabulous run he had. Martin fans are complaining about it too saying they should have thrown it and yes I could see that point but it would have had less controversay then having the bad boy beat the good guy

Well I'll say this much, Robert Pemperton, nascar man in charge on comp, has said in this mornings news, they may have made a mistake by not throwing the caution flag, thus keeping Martin from winning. He said that the race should have been frozen at the instant the accident happened and at that instant, Martin was clearly about a half of hood in front of Harvick. I am not a fan of either Martin or Harvick but why can't nascar get their s**t togeather. In front of the whole tv world, they have screwed up again.I think with all the cheating and this BIG mistake, nascar has lost a lot of creidbility in the sports world. Too bad. Martin won the race, Harvick got the throphy. Nascar can't even follow their own rules, they should have points taken away from them.

It should have been thrown; I'm not even a racing fan, however I watched Daytona 500 on Sunday and couldn't believe they did not throw the flag. Just as others have already stated, the flag should have been thrown for the other drivers safety...I mean a car crossed the finish line upside down!
Good race though; after that race I am sure I'll watch again.

Maybe it should have been thrown, but it's not the first time they threw a late caution on the final lap, just ask Junior and Jimmie who lost 20+ positions to Vickers' mistake.
Besides, there is no certainty it would have been thrown when Martin had the lead, and knowing that Harvick outdrove him Martin did not deserve the win. You don't deserve a win because someone else wrecked behind you.

I'm not a big fan of the yellow and freeze, never have been, but...... as the rule stands, it should have came out, martin wasn't the only one screwed by the yellow not coming out either. they say the wreck was behind them, it was, and just them. There were a lot of cars out there that it was in front of too.
The rules are the rules and no matter how you spin it NASCAR messed up big time on this.
NASCAR even went as far to say they were glad it was the 01 car and not the 8 car or we would have a big problem. What kind of spin is that?
I don't like Brian Frances new NASCAR and most likely will not watch anymore

I'm a Harvick fan, but Nascar screwed up, they let them race to the line, I keep hearing how the wreck was behind them, but what people are failing to understand is there were 40 or so other cars out there and they all wound up racing back to the line, and I agree with one of the other post on here about bowyer upside down and on fire, what if someone would've hit him at full speed,
we would have possibly had another death at daytona on the same day Dale sr died, In short Nascar has got off to a ruff start this year, it was a helluva race though.

Okay, so I always complain that NASCAR should have left the rule of racing back to the yellow alone, but this time it kinda sucked. I mean, it was the last lap - we all new it was gonna be a green, white, checker finish. All hell broke loose behind the leaders, so it would have really done no good the throw the caution. I do however, believe that for consistency sake, they should have raised a caution. Not it would have done much good, but at least the NASCAR officials would have been consistent.

I think the caution flag should have been thrown. Cause they do it in every race like that where there is a wreck on the final lap they throw the caution flag. They weren't being consistant with it. Also if you noticed Kevin Harvick swept the weekend. It looks suspicious if you know what I mean. It is like they kinda wanted to have Harvick win. So Yes I think they should have thrown the caution.
