Will this bring bad luck to the baby and do you think the name in general is just wrong for a kid to grow up with?

Should I tell her not to? What are your opinions?

Tell her just to name her Lucy or Lucille. Lucipher is pretty wack.

The main problem I can see with that is it will be shortened to Luci which, assuming it's a boy, could be embarrassing. It's really up to her what she calls her baby and it probably wouldn't be wise to interfer but you could point the whole shortening thing out to her. She will tell you that she'll insist on him being called Lucipher, but it won't work of course, his school friends will make up a nick name anyway. I can see why she likes it, it's a really cool name, but it doesn't really matter what a parent calls a child, it's what their mates call them and what they eventually call themselves that counts.

yeah naming you kid after Satan isn't something people normally do.... I would tell her not to... i don't know how much good or bad luck it will bring... but it could get him laughed at or outcast because little kids are cruel! humans in general might not wanna hang out with someone named Lucipher!

Thats a tough call. If you tell her your opinion she might be hurt or offended, depending on her personality she may name the child that anyway to prove a point. When I've heard of names that friends/family are naming their child I try to avoid giving my opinion unless asked.

You could ask her what she likes about the name and/or if she has any concerns about the name (teasing, etc). Bringing it up in a non-threating way may open up the topic for you to slip in your thoughts about the name.

The name actually does not appear in the Bible, only tradition links it to Satan.Tradition that leads to the culture that is today.Anyway, the child seriously will face unnecessary ridicule which can be avoided if a more appropriate name is chosen.Ask your sister:Would your child appreciate the name you've given her when she grow up?A name should be a source of self-esteem for anyone.Don't let your sister's mistake be the source of regret for her child.

I don't think it is a good name for anyone; especially not a child. I think to name a child that name, she is setting him and herself up for public ridicule, and a certain name he is going to try to live up to. So it really depends on her reason behind wanting to name her child that name. Unfortunately, you may give her your opinion and just because everyone could be against it; she will name him the name simply out of spite. "It's my child and I will name it what i want!" totally not having a care about the consequences or the future of her child. He may even grow up hating her for it. You never know, that may be something she is willing to accept. At this point it really is her choice.

well what i advise you to do is...........make up some story an olm man called lucipher i an area that you used to live in and make out that he was some old perv! maybe that will make u sister see some sense, and realise that if her child gets called lucipher it will most likely get bullied when he goes to school!

Just be honest with her about how it makes you feel. It is your sister's child so you should respect her wishes but that doesn't mean that you can't tell her how you feel. Some research on the name:

LUCIFER
Gender: Masculine
Usage: Theology
Pronounced: LOO-si-fur [key]
Means "bringing light", derived from Latin lux "light" and ferre "to bring". This name originally referred to the morning star, Venus, but later became associated with the chief angel who rebelled against God's rule in heaven.

Probably no bad luck, but DON'T let her do that. No kid wants to walk around with the same name as Satan. Do something about this immediately.

I would remind her that as the child is growing up he will be subjected to ridicule and teasing with such a name. Try talking to her in a calm, sensible manner. Good luck.
