How much time does that get you?

We are paying $700 in small town in West Virginia for 6 hours of service. Each extra hour is $100. This is in March.

Also keep in mind that June is a VERY busy wedding month & alot of venders raise prices for summer months. My location charges almost double between late May through mid-September. Cake prices also go up in my area duing this time. A DJ may charge more in these months as well. If this is a DJ that you know or that you know does good work, it may be very well worth the expense. You can continue to look around the next day or so, just to get prices, but I'd suggest booking something soon for a June wedding.

That sounds about right for a June wedding. Make sure to check what your are getting for the money. For $1200 you should get at least 4 hours of an experienced DJ, lights, transportation, and tax.

Good luck

I am paying $1100 for a well-known, well-established DJ for six hours in the MA/NH area. The place I'm using (A Good Time DJ's) has a wide range of prices, from $300 for four hours (haven't done any/many weddings) to $1500 for four hours. Ours cost $900 for 4 hours, and $100 per hour overtime. The place I'm using is based in Salem, NH; they travel all over. Of course, you have to figure in travel costs (we live close enough where there isn't any). For $1200, I hope you have a very good and experienced DJ. If so, then yes it is a fair price.

That is a pretty fair price for a wedding in June ... that is definitely high season so you're lucky you aren't paying more than $1,500 to begin with. The length of your reception matters as well, so that might depend on the pricing. Most vendors are going to have a minimum during high season, though, so you're better off booking that DJ.

I'm from Chicago, I paid $450 for my DJ. And he's really good, and professional. I'd suggest keep looking. Don't open the yellow pages or anything like that cuz those are the ones that rip you off. Go by word of mouth, ask around, co-workers, family, ect. The guy that we got has been a dj since high school, and he has evolved his dj hobby so much it's a career, so you never know.

WOW. I am fron the NYC metro area and 1200 is really REALLY high for around here and things are generally way more expensive in this area.

What are you getting for 1200? Lights, video screens etc or just basic Dj and emcee stuff.

Shop around, unless you are getting some awesome extra features thats too much.

Our DJ cost $600.00 in 1994 and we got married in the Midwest. It all depends on how good the DJ is and make sure you get at least 4 other quotes you will find a cheaper one but are they any good.

That is certainly on the upper end. He better be really good for that price.

Ask for some references and make sure you call them.

Find out what he does in the event he is ill. Who is his back up?

Does he have a second set of equipment in his van should something malfunction.

Dress code - what does he wear?

Does he have insurance?

What is his music selection like?

What is the going rate in Maine/New Hampshire?

Around here you could get a band.

1200 does sounds high to me but that depends on the band i would think. if you are getting a high quality band and money isn't a problem i would say go for it. i say it's your wedding so you should do what you want!!
