It took me about four months, but when I went to get my visa everybody else had waited 6-9 months (closer to nine in most cases). The only discernable difference between us? I was the only one with an immigration attorney.

Before you can adjust status, you will need to be married. Have you thought about that yet? My wife and I opted for a brief ceremony in front of the Mayor a few days after I arrived and then held another ceremony (and big party!) about eight months later. I know some people prefer to do just the one ceremony and that delays the adjustment of status. Your call.

My wife is a US citizen and I am British. We filed for an I-129F (Fiance Visa) in November 2005 and finally received the visa in July 2006. All our paperwork was in order and correct so there were no delays in the process so it literally took over seven months to receive. I am sorry to inform you that there is nothing you can do to speed the process up. It is a case of hurry up and wait.

what's the rush? you're British and he's in the military. It's a done deal unless you carelessly screw up the paperwork.
